RUSD Visual & Performing Arts K-12

Welcome to the Visual and Performing Arts, K-12 Web Site

“The arts are fundamental resources through which the world is

viewed, meaning is created, and the mind developed.”     Elliot Eisner

The Riverside Unified School District vision for the Visual and Performing Arts is to build excellence in the arts by assuring equitable access to high-quality arts programs for all students. We recognize that the arts elevate learning, transform thinking and provide unique pathways to student accomplishment. The RUSD Arts Plan guides the development of visual and performing arts curriculum in order to achieve that vision. Our goal is to provide opportunities for all students to participate successfully in coherent, standards-based programs, K-12, for the visual arts, music, dance, and theatre/media studies. To achieve this goal it is necessary to:

· Provide teachers with appropriate professional development opportunities in the arts

· Determine success by the quality of the artistic process as well as the completed product

· Celebrate student accomplishment in the arts through community exhibitions and performances

· Maintain district-wide leadership specific to the visual and performing arts in order to promote continuous improvement

· Maximize partnerships and collaborations with cultural arts agencies in the larger community
